Things to do when Winter is Never Ending

Does anyone feel as though this winter is lasting an eternity?  I normally love winter but then again, I also love winter sports and I have not been able to do them this year (more on that later).  We have reached mid-February and realized the schools around here have not gone for a full 5 days since before Christmas.  The weather is just killing it.  And the makeup for ice, snow, and frigid days is going to lead to school all year round at this rate!  If you are struggling this winter like we are, here is a roundup of great ideas to pass the time until the snow melts for good.

An Essential Drawer for Essential Oils

By now it should come as no surprise that I use essential oils for lots of things in my life.  Like hand soap, body wash, laundry, allergy fighter…  You get the idea.  So naturally, I have quite a few bottles of the stuff.  I had been using some nice wood boxes for storing oils but they just weren’t working for my daily use.  But now I have the perfect essential oil organizer for us!

How Vitamin C Serum Changed My Life

Hi, my name is Leah and I suffer from dry skin.  So dry, I have been applying moisturizer to my face multiple times a day this month.  And I don’t just mean multiple as in once in the morning and once in the evening.  Oh no, Monday I was home due to a blizzard and I think I applied moisturizer 5 times before noon!  Funny thing is, I stumbled on the miracle product that fixed all this dryness back in November.  And then I ran out of it.  And then my Amazon order got cancelled.  Well good news!  My second Amazon order delivered yesterday and my poor dry face has been feeling so much better since!

Amazing Sautéed Kale – Whole 30 Approved

Last fall we tried the meal box service Blue Apron.  I never got around to a review like I did for Green Chef here, but honestly, we weren’t overly impressed.  Except for the sautéed kale that was made with some salmon.  Oh my goodness was that good!  So good, I found myself craving it again and decided to dig up the recipe and make it.  And then I made it again a week later.  Now, sautéed kale may have you turning up your nose (don’t worry, I did too – and I like kale!) but this is not some soggy greens dish.  It’s tangy, sweet, and salty.  Bonus, it’s Whole 30 approved so I guess that means it’s healthy.  On these super cold winter nights, it’s the perfect warm vegetable side to any entree!

Post Christmas Winter Mantel

Happy Mid-January!  I feel like the past few weeks since Christmas have flown by but also have moved slowly.  Is that even possible?  Normally I like to keep my Christmas decor up all through January.  I think this is because we travel so much in December I’m not home to enjoy it until January.  But this year I was getting the itch to take it all down on January 1st.  I’ve left most surfaces bare but I wanted to make our mantel and fireplace look wintery.  ❄️

DIY Fleece Poncho

I am fortunate enough to have a job that lets me work from home a couple days a week.  While working from home, I often get really cold because I’m just sitting still all day.  I usually use a space heater in my office so I don’t have to heat the entire house.  The problem is the space heater is too loud for conference calls, which I regularly have.  I have gotten frustrated with a blanket getting rolled over by my chair and also having to leave the warmth behind to go get more coffee or water.  Even while watching TV at night I’ve noticed I was craving a blanket I could wear that wouldn’t fall off.  Enter the DIY fleece poncho.
